What it's All About:
Another Middle Eastern form of paganism. It is somewhat similar to Mesopotamian paganism. Much like the Romans borrowed the Greek gods from the Greeks, Mesopotamia borrowed from tribes like the Sumerians. I will discuss some interesting facts about the ancient Sumerians and how this pantheon can be incorporated into modern paganism.

Welcome to another episode of the Music From the Goddess’ Vault Podcast. I am your host, Midnight Starr. The song that opened the show was Midsummer Fever by David Wood.
The show today is all about Sumerian paganism. Now for some housekeeping. Please check out the blog goddess vault one dot Wix site dot com forward slash home if you haven't already. You can listen to the show from there. Please share this podcast on the blog, the Music From the Goddess' Vault Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter at goddess vault, and TikTok at Midnight Starr two. That's Midnight Starr (with two r's) and the number two. Let's talk about Sumerian paganism. As I mentioned in the episode about Mesopotamia, their beliefs were borrowed from many tribes living in that region. Otherwise, just as the Romans did with the ancient Greeks. Then again, it was not uncommon for different tribes anywhere to mix in the same area, since a lot of them did. I will focus on the Sumerians more specifically this time. We'll continue the show with some more music: Eleanor and the Lost's Midsummer Lullaby.

As you are aware, Sumer was located in the southern region of Mesopotamia. It was among the earliest civilizations there. It was they who started the whole farming movement, which eventually led to city states. Here are some things you didn't know about ancient Sumer. One ancient Sumerian city had over 80 thousand inhabitants. The Sumerians were the first civilization to create cities. There is a king list tablet that contains the names of all the rulers there, including one woman, Kubaba. They were the first civilization to establish both a land- and sea-based trade network. The Sumerians devised a system of time that is divided into day and night, 12 hour periods, and 60 minute hours. Additionally, they had a first school, architecture, irrigation technique, and government bureaucracy. Later, I will discuss modern day Sumerian paganism. This is Helouise Pilkington with Ancient Mother.

It’s time for another spirit guide of the week. I am still going to be in Sumer and Mesopotamia to talk about the goddess Ereshkigal. She is an underground goddess of the dead. Also called the ruler of the Mesopotamian death realm. Ereshkigal is a powerful spirit with life-controlling abilities. She also has a connection to the water of life. Her name translates to “Queen of the Great Earth.” Ereshkigal is also Inanna’s older sister and her competitor, and alter ego. She has the ability to resurrect the dead as a turbulent and violent temptress. She can also control and persuade ghosts. In one myth, she and her husband Nergal ruled over the kingdom of Irkalla. In the poem Inanna’s Descent into the Underworld, it explains how Ereshkigal got to be the queen of the dead. The only way that you can invoke Ereshkigal’s powers is to get a necromantic spell from the magical papyri of Alexandria. What you can offer Ereshkigal on your altar: Well, whatever gifts you give to the dead will make their way to her. That is it for now. Stay tuned for another spirit guide of the week.

That was Inkubus Sukkubus with There is Only the Dead Inside. In the Mesopotamian episode, I forgot to mention something. But I will mention it here since it has something to do with Sumerian paganism. There are covens devoted to Sumerians, or the Mesopotamian Reconstructionist movement. I found two of them online: The Temple of Sumer and The Ishtar Gate. You'll find links to each in the show notes. They worship the gods in much the same way as ancient Sumerians. To begin with, ancient Mesopotamia was built around the worship of the gods. As part of their practice, they have food offerings, perform libations, pray, keep the altar clean, and practice humility. Sumerian Paganism is based on the cuneiform script since it is a gift from the gods. Cuneiform was an ancient writing system used in the Middle East. It comprised special characters written on stone tablets. There is nothing else I can add about Sumerian Paganism other than the links I have included in the show notes. Here’s Inanna Blue by Hecate’s Wheel.

Here's another dream symbol to interpret. Here are three more. Sandals, scalp, and sea. In your dreams, seeing or wearing a sandal represents flexibility and satisfaction. To find another pair of sandals in your dreams indicates that you must go off on a different route. If you dreamed that your sandals were torn, it implies you need to take things more slowly in some scenarios. If you see your own scalp in your dream, it suggests you need to get whatever it is out of your mind. To dream of someone massaging your scalp it means you need some mental stimulation. If you had a dream where you or someone else gets scalped, it denotes that someone or something is draining your vitality and power. In most cases, the sea in dreams reflects your emotions or the shift between your conscious and subconscious minds. If you dream about being lost at sea, it means you're wandering in your life with nowhere to go. And if you have a dream about the sea becoming crystalized, it means you are striving for emotional control in your life. If you want a dream symbol to interpret and maybe have a dream symbol featured, I will mention the contact information at the end of this show. So keep dreaming.

Time for a nice, deep and relaxing meditation. Again, if you are driving, you may skip ahead. This meditation is from the album Guided 5 Minute Calming Meditation. The song is called Deep Relaxation in 5 Minutes by the Honest Guys.

This was Arcana's Calm Before the Storm. The previous song was Vanessa Cardui's Sea Chant. I would like to say a few words before I leave. I intend to do crowdfunding for this show again. In the past, I have done something similar, but that did not work out. So I am trying again. This time I'm using Ko-Fi and Patreon. Yup, I'm using two crowdfunding sites this time. It's up to you to decide which one to use. I have not yet set them up, but I will let you know as soon as I do. I don't expect to make a million dollars this time around. It would be nice, but it's not realistic. I understand that times are tough, so pay what you can. I will let you know in the next few weeks. Finally, I might start a newsletter for this podcast. It's something I was going to do a year or two ago, but I don't have the patience to create one from scratch. Anyone who knows how to do a newsletter, please let me know. Now it's time to wrap up. Again, I am your host, Midnight Starr. Again, I am your host, Midnight Starr.
