What it's All About:

Small town Pagans are people who live in small rural communities. A lot of these Pagans live solitary lifestyles and don't have anyone to socialize with, so they find community online or go to small festivals. Small town Pagans are just as much a part of the Pagan community as anybody else. They're still part of the global movement even if they don't go to every event or connect with everyone they'd like. I'll be discussing that and more in this podcast.

For those of you who live in small towns, you may know how difficult it can be to find others like you who practice paganism. I was born and raised as a big city girl. When I moved to a small city in another province 10 years ago, I thought it was just going to be like living in another city. Well, the people in this small city acted like they were living in a small town. I mean everyone knows about everyone else’s business type of city. It was a totally different experience. I looked for pagan communities but had no such luck. There wasn’t any at first. As time went on, there was one group that lasted for a little bit until they disbanded due to lack of interest. Anyway, I will be talking about Small Town Pagan, how to find a pagan community if you are living in a small town, and more. First, let’s listen to some music. I’ve got some great music picked out for us, including this one: This Town is Wrong by Hecate’s Wheel.

(09:12)

There is unfortunately not much information available on this topic. However, if you are a witch who is living or has moved to a small town and want to know more about surviving as the only witch in that area, there is a book called The Small-Town Pagan’s Survival Guide: How to Thrive in Any Community by Bromwen Forbes. It's in the show notes. If you’re a solitary witch in a small community, you can still relate to this. And you’ve already dealt with this. For those of us who are considering becoming pagan or have moved to a small town, there are ways to deal with being the only witch there. First off, you can go on Facebook. That’s where you can find lots of different pagan groups. There are even ones that are within your state or province. Facebook is the only social media site that allows you to join groups. This is beneficial because it allows you to connect with like-minded people and join in on discussions that you’re interested in. Another way to find other pagans is to look on other social media, or websites that have forums in them. This still might be happening in some Pagan Facebook groups, but some of them are still doing rituals on there. I know that before I moved, during the pandemic, the coven I was part of did theirs on Facebook. But now that the restrictions are gone, some have gone back to in person events. You don’t need to break the bank to get the right tools for your ritual or spell work. You can find rocks, sticks or anything in the environment to put on your altar. However, other shopping options are available on websites such as Amazon, eBay, and Etsy. You can find some pagan tools at your local Walmart. I know that sounds weird, but trust me on this. Nonetheless, if there is a New Age shop in your small town, which is rare, buy from there. If you are new to Paganism, there are online classes you can take. And if you tried and can’t do it alone, you can find out where the nearest pagan community is outside of your small town. It will be tough driving there, but what else can you do? Here’s I Am Pagan by Spiral Rhythm.

It's time for another spirit guide of the week. I know that some of you will not like this. I am the very few who are not afraid of rats. If the rat is your totem animal, you are a person who is shy, nervous, and restless. In some parts of the world, rats are considered to be lucky. If rat is your power animal, it's telling you that you are going to be successful in whatever career or endeavor you are pursuing. That career could be in the sciences. Who knows? Besides, you know that success comes from hard work and not through a get rich quick scheme. If rat is your spirit animal, you might be a bit of a hoarder. It is best for you to do some major house cleaning to get rid of stuff that you don’t use or need. Totem animal rat is letting you know that you are a true survivor. You have the strength, resilience, flexibility, and determination Plus, you adapt very well to your surroundings. When you feel you can’t handle something on your own, reach out to power animal rat. This will give you the extra strength you need to get through whatever you’re facing. That is it for now. Stay tuned for another spirit guide of the week.

That’s another song from Spiral Rhythm - Children’s Totem Chant. There is another article I found relating to being a small town pagan. But it's from the author of the book that I mentioned earlier. The article is called Top 10 Problems of Being a Small Town Pagan. It's actually a funny list. Include stuff like: driving the 150 miles back home with your newly bought incense coal, you realized that you had forgotten to buy the incense that goes with it. Another is self explanatory, and that is dating. The looks that you get from your neighbors when you’re the only one who hasn’t taken down your Halloween decorations, and only put up a wreath for Christmas. Then there is forgetting to change out of your ritual clothes and coming back home after attending a pagan festival.I think there is more to that top 10 than you can look at yourself. Maybe I can ask all you listeners who are small town pagans what your top problems are of being one. Please let me know. Here’s a song that I haven’t played for a while: Heretic Heart by Catherine Madsen.

(21:25)

Here's another dream symbol to interpret. Once again there are three in this week’s dream symbol, and they are: new, news, and newspaper. Dreaming of something new, whether it be a person, place, or thing, reflects what is new in your real life. If you dream that you are wearing new shoes, this may be a sign that you are way too confident of your achievement. If you saw a new house in a dream, it means that you are assuming a new persona and gaining new skills. Dreaming that you are at a new school indicates that you are experiencing social awkwardness. If you view or hear the news in your dream, your intuition is trying to tell you something very important. If you dreamed that you received wonderful news, it foreshadows a bad twist of fate. If you receive unpleasant news in your dream, the circumstance is most likely not as awful as you thought it would be. If you see or read a newspaper in your dream, it suggests that a real issue that has been bothering you is receiving fresh attention and understanding. If you are incapable of reading the newspaper in your dreams, this suggests that your credibility is in jeopardy. And a dream in which you are selling newspapers means that you are attempting to educate and notify others of some vital information. If you want a dream symbol to interpret and maybe have a dream symbol featured, I will mention the contact information at the end of this show. So keep dreaming.

(26:33)

It's time for a nice, deep, and relaxing meditation. If you are driving or doing something that requires your full attention, please skip ahead. This next meditation comes from the album Bilateral Audio and EMDR Audio for Meditation and Stress Release, which was released by Meditation Practice. This track is called Guided Meditation of Release.
