What it's All About:
The Pagan Vegan movement is based on the belief that all living creatures have the right to lead a life free from harm. Thus, they strive to live in a way that honors and respects all life. Pagan Vegans do not believe in taking the life of animals for food or for any other purpose. Therefore, they avoid consuming animal products and strive to live a plant-based lifestyle. I will explore this more in this show.

Let's talk about Pagan Vegans. This was the second request from Brannen on witches.live. This is a huge shift that some folks undergo when they become pagan. I'm a picky vegetarian and meat eater. I love my bread, grains, and dairy. Likewise, I'm picky when it comes to fruits, veggies, and meat. I don't want to go deep into my eating habits, but I don't mind having a veggie burger here and there. And I don’t mind being around vegetarians, as long as they don’t pressure me into becoming one. I’ll talk more about being a Pagan Vegan after you hear Fruit by Kate Fletcher.

Let's start with the history of Vegetarianism. Yes, there is a history of this. But the first famous person known for following a Vegan lifestyle was the renowned Greek Mathematician Pythagoras, who lived around 580 B.C.E. He taught others to view animals as similar to humans, and to not eat meat as it can be healthier to abstain from it. For Pythagoras, vegetarianism was a lifestyle choice that he not only advocated, but also practiced. Vegetarianism has been an integral part of some religions originating from Asia such as Hinduism, Brahmanism, Zoroastrianism, and Jainism. It was strongly advocated for in the most sacred old Hindu writing, the ‘Rig Veda.’ Back then, they learned to respect all living things. While I was doing research on vegetarianism, I discovered a few well-known historical figures who were vegan: Benjamin Franklin, St. Francis of Assisi, Henry David Thoreau, Percy Shelley, and more. I want to take a break and play Blessings of the Animals by Lisa Thiel.

It's time for another spirit guide of the week. I am back in India to talk about the god Hanuman. He personifies triumph, bravery, and tenacity. Hanuman is the popular and much-loved monkey god in the Hindu pantheon. There are lots of temples and shrines in India in his honor. There are two stories about how Hanuman was born. He's either the son of some powerful monkey king and queen, or his parents are the Apsara, Anjani, and the wind god Vayu. As a kid, he was divine, since he showed amazing powers. Hanuman can be sly, robust, and powerful. It's said he was so hungry he jumped up to grab the sun, 'cause he thought it looked like a mango. He is also the hero of the epic Ramayana. He is the one who helped rescue Sita from the evil Ravan. He is also impervious to fire, water, and firearms. The items you can give Hanuman on your altar are butter, butter carvings, and lamps with purified butter in them. That is it for now. Stay tuned for another spirit guide of the week.

That was Mutant Monkey from Omnia. When I was doing the research into modern Pagan Vegans, I didn’t know two things: There is a restaurant in Las Vegas called Pagan Vegan. I’m from Canada, and I don’t think that there is a Pagan Vegan restaurant where I live. And there's this thing called the Pagan Diet. This diet's a mix of Paleo and vegan. First off, this is not a fad diet, this is a lifestyle change, and it is sustainable. Following the Pagan Diet involves some rules. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, legumes, seeds, and nuts is a must. You cannot eat very many heavily processed oils, grains, or starchy vegetables. I guess that this includes potatoes. And you can’t eat any dairy, farmed animal products, food with additives in them to gluten. However, you can have moderate amounts of meat and some fish on this meat, as long as it is not too much. For all of you non-pagans listening to this show, asking yourself, are pagans vegans? Like I said before, I'm picky about veggies, fruit, and meat. Otherwise, no, not all pagans are vegetarians. If you want to learn more about the Pagan Diet or any other aspect of being a Pagan Vegan, check out the show notes. This also includes one from vegan kitchen magick (spelled M-A-G-I-C-K) dot com. There are a bunch of vegetarian recipes and pagan stuff on that site. I am going to play another Omnia song for you. T=his song is called Earth Warrior.

Here's another dream symbol to interpret. Once again there are three: Shower, Goddess, and Pet. Dreaming that you are taking a shower of pure, clean water denotes regeneration and healing on the spiritual and physical levels. If you dreamed that you were taking a shower while fully dressed, it represents the fact that no matter how much your looks may change, it won't change who you are on the inside. If you dreamed that you were showering with someone, it may be a sign that you have to tell the truth about or admit something to them. The idea that you were taking a shower in murky or filthy water in your dream suggests that you are feeling uncomfortable about something. The fact that you cannot take a shower or that it is not functioning well indicates that you are unable to relieve some of your worries. In dreams, seeing a goddess represents your feminine side. If a man had a dream about a goddess, this would suggest that he has phobias towards women. Pets in dreams typically reflect refined intuition. A dream of your deceased pet might indicate something from the past coming back. If you had a dream that your current pet was dead or dying, it signifies that you are experiencing some form of restraint or suffocation. If you want a dream symbol to interpret and maybe have a dream symbol featured, I will mention the contact information at the end of this show. So keep dreaming.

You know the drill. If you're driving or need to focus on something else, don't listen to this part of the podcast. Here's a meditation from the album Mindfulness Meditation for Tranquility and Insight by Guided Meditation with Dr. Miles Neale. This track's called Brief Mindfulness of Breathing.
