Welcome to another episode of the Music From the Goddess’ Vault Podcast. I am your host, Midnight Starr. You just heard Livia with The Magician. Today’s show is all about Hedge Witchcraft. First, some stuff to get out of the way. There is an album coming out on June 24th called the Red Album. It is a compilation album comprising 19 artists who have donated their time, money and music to create this. They're trying to raise money to support organizations that work for women's reproductive health. And they need your help in donating some of your money to this cause and to get the Red Album out to the public.
Some musicians who are going to be in this project are Spiral Rhythm, Brain Henke, Mama Gina, and 16 others. Get more details about this project by checking out The Red Album Facebook page or visiting https://pagansong.com/the-red-album/. If you're interested in donating, the Abortion Access Pagan Music Project has a GoFundMe page linked in the show notes. Alternatively, you can find it by searching for it at GoFundMe.com. If you love this program, show some support for the Music From the Goddess’ Vault Podcast by making a donation to either http://www.ko-fi.com/goddessvault or http://www.patreon.com/goddessvault. Make sure you stay up to date with Music From the Goddess’ Vault Podcast by signing up for my newsletter. Be the first to know when new shows are available. You can access past episodes by paying $7 a month or $70 a year. Or you can subscribe for free at http://musicgoddessvault.substack.com. That's http://musicgoddessvault.substack.com. You can get in touch with me via the blog, https://goddessvault1.wixsite.com/home or on Facebook. TikTok at Midnight Starr (with two r's and the number two). Instagram and Twitter @goddessvault. Mastodon at @goddessvault@witches.live and midnightstarr2@pagan.plus. And on Pixedfed at goddessvault@pixedfed.social. Now for the topic: Hedge Witchcraft. I know that some of you out there are one. I am definitely not one. But like some of you, I like to learn and educate you all on the different pagan paths that are out there. And this is not just for the new Pagans out there. Perhaps there are those that have been on the path for some time who want to switch to a new one. I'll check out some stuff on Hedge Witchery after you listen to Wiccan Dance by Magicfolk.

When it comes to the modern history of Hedge Witchery, there is not a great deal of information available. Let's just say that thousands of years before Christianity, or even during the rise of Christianity, there was an individual, often a woman, though not exclusively so, who lived on the outskirts of the town who possessed healing abilities. They are quite knowledgeable about herbs, their many uses, and how they can be used for healing purposes. They are somewhat like shamans. Similar to how traditional shamans have been known to do, Hedge Witches can travel to the astral plane and then return once again to the material world. They were living a solitary life, with no one else around, and were practicing magic daily. Their family members or mentors taught them the knowledge, and they then passed this knowledge down through the generations. Later on, I'm going to talk about the beliefs and practices of Hedge Witchcraft. I want to take a break and play Pagan History Day by Pagan Rap Gang.

Time for another Spirit Guide of the Week. I am going to have a fun time pronouncing these names. Returning to the country of Mexico, I am here to speak about the fascinating Aztec Goddess Coyolxauhqui. She is the Aztec moon goddess. Belonging to the Aztecs, she is a part of their ancient religion, which is centered on the cycles of the moon. The name of Coyolxauhqui translates to "Golden bells" which also adorn her face. The goddess Coyolxauhqui has a mother who is known as the earth goddess Coutlique. Additionally, one of her siblings is the sun god Huitzilopochtli. Coyolxauhqui's myth goes like this. Coutlique was sweeping the floor of the temple when a ball of feathers fell on her. She then gave birth to Huitzilopochtli. When Coyolxauhqui found out about the birth, she along with her 400 siblings, all stars in the sky, were furious with their mother. And they decided to kill her. Huitzilopochtli retaliated by taking the life of Coyolxauhqui and dismembering her remains. The remains of Coyolxauhqui were unfortunate enough to have tumbled down to Snake mountain. Even until the present, it is possible to observe the head of this woman, which is white, moving through the sky during the nighttime alongside all of her many siblings.

That was Mama Gina with Blood Moon. When it comes to hedge witches and their rituals, home is where the heart is. This is no matter if you are in a coven or a solitary witch. Many believe that the kitchen is the center of magic in the home. Cooking and cleaning can be like a spiritual experience. However, hedge witchery is not an indoor focused practice. If you're comfortable in nature, you might want to give this a shot. Also, the natural world is where it all begins for the craft. The majority of time is spent with herbal magic. A hedge witch would totally grow these in their garden, then harvest and dry them. She can try different herbs to see what they can and can't do. She then records her findings in her book of shadows. Living mindfully and magically is what they do, as wise healers who look to the natural world for guidance and healing. Healing comes first from within. It's all about body, mind, and spirit. In addition, hedge witches are down-to-earth but can also travel between different physical and spiritual dimensions. Please let me know if I missed anything. I've got some books on Hedge Witchery in the show notes. Here’s Bran Cerddorion with Garden of the Mind.

Here's another dream symbol to interpret. Today it’s Tornado, Clouds, and Swimming. If you dream about a tornado, it might indicate that you're struggling with anger issues or being moody. If you dreamed about being in a tornado, it could mean that you're agitated and losing control. If you dream that you escape a tornado without getting hurt, it means that you'll get through tough times. Dreaming about multiple tornadoes could mean that the people close to you are having mood swings and outbursts. A white cloud in your dream denotes kindness, inner serenity, and spiritual unity. Dark and stormy clouds in your dreams are a metaphor for sadness or rage. If you had a dream where you were swimming, it means you are exploring your feelings and subconscious mind. If you dreamed about swimming away from something or person, that means you're avoiding a big emotional issue. If you dreamt about swimming away because you don't want to die or get hurt, it means you're letting fear control what you do. If you saw children swimming in your dream, it means that you need to become more carefree. And If you had an underwater swimming dream, it means that you are entirely engulfed in your own emotions. If you want a dream symbol to interpret and maybe have a dream symbol featured, I will mention the contact information at the end of this show. So keep dreaming.

Time for a nice, deep, and relaxing meditation. Again, please don’t listen to this section if you are driving machinery. This next meditation comes from the album Headlines Meditation. This is by Rob Wallis and it's called 5 Minute Guided Meditation.

That was Perception by Fay Brotherhood. Before that you heard Wolf in the Clouds by Harold Carter (featuring Cloud the Pagan Rapper). That is it for this show. Again, I am your host, Midnight Starr. I would like to remind you that if you are interested in donating to the Red Album project, which I mentioned at the beginning of this show, the Access Pagan Music Project has a GoFundMe page linked in the show notes. Alternatively, you can find it by searching for it on GoFundMe.com. Get more details about this project by checking out The Red Album Facebook page or visiting https://pagansong.com/the-red-album/. It's for a good cause. Got an idea for a show topic, spirit guide or dream symbol? Share it on the website https://goddessvault1.wixsite.com/home and on social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Mastodon, and Pixelfed.
