Welcome to another episode of the Music From the Goddess’ Vault Podcast. I am your host, Midnight Starr. You just heard Jon O'bergh's Hecate. In fact, he asked me to play one of his tracks through the blog. Here is a little more about Jon O'bergh. He is an author and musician. His books are mostly fiction. You can look those up on his website, which I will give you a little later. I am going to focus on his music. Jon O’Bergh has played music in many different styles, including jazz, world fusion, and dance. The track I played is from his latest album, 13 Witches. To create what you just heard, he combines his own piano style with other instruments. If you enjoy listening to Hecate and wish to learn more about Jon O'bergh's mystical world of music, visit his website: https://www.obergh.net. I will spell this one out for you. Its O-B-E-R-G-H dot net. Today's show is all about the athame. Did you know that there is a Music From the Goddess’ Vault Podcast newsletter? Yes, there is, and I have posted the latest episode there. As a result, you'll be the first to know when new shows are released. You can also get past episodes if you pay seven dollars a month or seventy dollars a year. Or you can subscribe for free at http://musicgoddessvault.substack.com. That's http://musicgoddessvault.substack.com. Also, please donate some money to the podcast by going to either ko-fi.com/goddessvault. That’s K-O-dash-F-I dot com forward slash goddess vault. Or you can do the same at patreon.com/goddessvault. All the money will go towards paying the bills for this podcast. You can donate once or monthly on both sites. Also, please help me figure out what to put on those tiers. Nonetheless, here are the links once more: Ko-Fi (that's K-O dot F I) forward slash goddess vault and patreon.com/goddessvault. Please check out the blog goddess vault one dot Wix site dot com forward slash home if you haven't already. You can listen to the show from there. Let's talk about the athame now. When we first start the path to becoming witches, that is one of the first tools we learn to use. Why do we need it? Is there a symbology behind it? Does the athame have a history? I will talk about the athame more after you hear Athame by Threefold.

It is not known where the word Athame came from. But it is known to have come from the Grimoire of the Key of Solomon from the Renaissance. Obviously, that text used different words to describe a ritual knife, such as artavus. It has a more recent history. It was first used for banishing rituals by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn early in the last century. It was later adopted by Thelemites, Satanists, and us Wiccans and Pagans. This brings us once again to Gerald Gardner. He made the athame the most important ritual tool in Wicca.
Here’s Crow Women with Chalice to Blade.

I am going back to Norse and Germanic mythology to talk about the god Tyr. He rules over the skies, battles, justice, and self sacrifice. He even has control over any battle's victory. Tyr also has wisdom when it comes to the etiquette of battle. And he is the guardian of oaths. Tyr was originally a Germanic deity and might have led that pantheon. As a matter of fact, his name means "god" or "the god." As a god of war, he belongs to the Aesir tribe. According to mythology, Tyr is the son of Odin or Jotunn Hymir. He is always shown with one severed arm. According to legend, the gods bound the wolf Fenris. In order to maintain cosmic order, he bit Tyr's hand off. From then on, he became a one armed god. According to the Ragnarok mythology, he was eaten by Gamr, a dog. Tyr's name appears in the runes. The symbol is a “T” but it looks like an arrow pointing up. And the day Tuesday is also named after him. That is it for now. Stay tuned for another spirit guide of the week.

That was Tyr by Pagan Rap Gang. For those of you who aren't pagan, an athame is a knife or dagger. It's not used to cut anything or as a weapon. It is one of the four main tools we use in ritual and spell work. The main purpose of this is to channel our energy into and out of it. As part of the beginning of rituals or spell work, we use it to cut the circle. During the Great Rite, which few of us observe, the athame is plunged into a chalice of water. We do that as a symbol. An athame represents the phallus, while a chalice is a womb. That’s why we use that in our practice. Here’s Secret Womb of Night by Gaia Consort.

Here's another dream symbol to interpret. There are three in this week’s dream symbol: Yard, Daisy, and Dandelion. Your front yard appearing in your dreams is a metaphor for what you decide to make public. In your dreams, if you see a neatly kept yard, it represents your capacity for care and order in areas of your external life, such as job and social engagements. If you see a neglected and disorganized yard, it's a sign that certain areas of your life are beyond your control. Typically, seeing daisies in dreams conveys youth, purity, sweetness, kindness, and cleanliness. A dream in which you were strolling through a field of daisies implies joy and riches. Dreaming that you are picking daisy petals represents the sincerity of love. If you received a bouquet of daisies in a dream, it represents heartache and/or a failed relationship. In dreams, dandelions typically represent a joyful and cheerful environment. If you were blowing on dandelions in your dream, it represents fading times. And having a dream that you were devouring dandelions warns you to improve your health or face unfavorable repercussions. If you want a dream symbol to interpret and maybe have a dream symbol featured, I will mention the contact information at the end of this show. So keep dreaming.

Please skip ahead if you are operating machinery while listening to this podcast. This meditation is from Linnea Bailey's album Self Love Regression and Affirmations. Self Love Affirmations is the name of this track.

That was Healing Chant by Heather Alexander. Before that, you heard Dandelion Wine by Faun featuring In Gowan Ring. That is it for this show. I am your host, Midnight Starr.Just before I finish, I have to announce that the next podcast will not be a pagan one. Don't fret, the following ones will go back to being pagan. But the next one is going to be secular. I recently received a message on LinkedIn from someone who believed that all podcasts are interviews. They contacted me and asked me to interview a family member who has an important message they want to share with others. At first, I thought they were offering me a job, but their message was something I couldn't turn down. But the topic is still important to us, especially since some of us are Pagan Activists. Though it is not the root cause, climate change does contribute to it. This is the only hint I will give you about the next topic. But I will still be playing some music from your favorite pagan bands next week. If you're a fan of the show and would like to be the first to hear new episodes, you can subscribe to the Music From the Goddess’ Vault Podcast Newsletter at http://musicgoddessvault.substack.com. If you enjoy this show and would prefer not to subscribe to the newsletter, you can donate as little as three dollars to either https://www.ko-fi.com/goddessvault or https://www.patreon.com/goddessvault. I have yet to find a company that will help me put the logo for the podcast on their merchandise. But I will. You just have to be patient.
